The Pastoral Museum of Castelsaraceno is a unique work in the panorama of demo-ethno-anthropological museums in Lucania. It stands out among the few museums in Southern Italy that have committed themselves to telling such a peculiar and representative theme.

Entering the museum, a scenography in images introduces the context of Castelsaraceno from a socio-economic and cultural point of view.
In the exhibition area dedicated to Knowledge, the testimonies are transmitted, through interviews, by the inhabitants themselves who thus become the narrators and disseminators of the local culture.

To enrich the room, four display cases with period objects reconstruct specific themes.
The Memory exhibition area hosts four emblematic videos: transhumance, the traditional ‘Ndenna festival, the shepherd’s typical day and the artisanal making of fuscelle.

The section dedicated to Space tells the shepherd’s work tools through restored period objects, and through the multimedia station of “narrative objects”, where it is possible to interact with some reproductions > objects to listen to evocative video stories.

Finally, the Time room is dedicated to an immersive panoramic projection that envelops and transports the visitor into the magical Lucanian scenery. The environment becomes multi-sensorial thanks to the synchronized audio and the fragrance diffuser, smells connected with nature represented simultaneously.

It is advisable to check the correspondence of the opening hours by contacting the facility directly.
Open from Monday to Sunday continuously, it is possible to visit it in groups of up to 20 people at the same time. The visit lasts approximately 30/45 minutes and you can request a local guide to have a clear and timely explanation of the topics of the rooms, or proceed independently.
As regards the ticket, it can be purchased exclusively at the Infopoint in Piazza Piano della Corte, in front of the Castelsaraceno town hall.
Instead, for those who purchase the entrance ticket to the longest Tibetan Bridge in the world, access is included in the price.
