Matera – the Tibetan Bridge as a walkway between the Sassi and the Belvedere

For lovers of walking, nature, photography and breathtaking views, the Tibetan Bridge over the Gravina stream is one of the main attractions for visiting Matera Murgiana, a convenient passage for hikers and the less experienced. strong>

The Tibetan Bridge of Matera has become an attraction not to be missed not only for those who visit the city of the Sassi but also for the people of Matera themselves: the bridge, in fact, is part of a beautiful route of trekking also suitable for childrenwhich leads from the Sassi to the heart of the Murgia Materana Park.

Not exactly the classic Tibetan bridge but so called due to the similar technical characteristics, made of wood and steel and connects the bank of the Gravina dei Sassi with the bank through which you reach the Belvedere of Matera , perhaps the most famous panoramic point of the city, located within the Murgia Materana Park.

The route starts from Porta Pistola, a square in the Sassi where there is access to path 406 which, through the Tibetan bridge, allows you to cross the Gravina stream (which runs alongside the Sassi) and allows hikers to reach the Murgia Timone area, in the Murgia Park, where it is possible to enjoy a wonderful view of the city of the Sassi and also visit some rock churches.

The entire route lasts about 4 hours on average and has a difficulty level of E.

Trail 406 has a total length of 6 km, with a difference in altitude from 200 to 350m.

We recommend to wear trekking shoes, long trousers, sunscreen (especially in summer), mosquito repellent, hat and water.

Access is free every day. There is no need for reservation.
