The museum offers a dynamic perspective: it traces the history of Italian art from the Second World War to today, explores the present through an exhibition focused on research and contributes to tracing new paths of art by following the most innovative and pulsating experimental practices.
It is in the heart of the cultural district of the Manifattura delle Arti, at the center of a series of entities dedicated to research and innovation: the Cineteca di Bologna, the laboratory spaces of the University Departments of the DMS, the Faculty of Communication Sciences and numerous associations and Art gallery.

The GAM Collection at MAMbo
The collections of the former Gallery of Modern Art in Bologna were affected by a complex and necessary reconfiguration on the occasion of their move of location for the opening of the MAMbo, which took place on 5 May 2007 and were subsequently made visible to the public with periodic displays renewed to this day.
The Morandi Museum at MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art of Bologna
In autumn 2012, following the transfer of the Morandi Museum to its own spaces, MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art of Bologna launched a new exhibition project, presenting itself to the public in a new guise.
The presence of the Morandi collection – in addition to highlighting the great influence of the artist in the contemporary world – creates a connection with the artistic events of Bologna, with the history of the museum and with its founding reasons, generating a strong link with the Permanent Collection.
Thanks to a continuous increase in assets guaranteed by new acquisitions, donations and loans on loan, the Collection is constantly subject to research and renewal.
The thematic areas of the MAMbo permanent collection
The exhibition itinerary is currently divided into thematic areas that document some of the most innovative aspects of artistic practice from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day, seen through the experience of the former Gallery of Modern Art.
