The house of Giorgio Morandi, one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, has become a museum by will of his family
The most beautiful landscape in the world
“Going up towards Grizzana, at a certain point there is a curve and there when you exit the curve, there is the most beautiful landscape in the world”.
Thus Giorgio Morandi, considered one of the greatest painters and engravers of the twentieth century, expressed himself about Grizzana, a privileged place of inspiration and subject of some of his most famous masterpieces.

At the entrance to the town is his house, which became a museum thanks to the will of his sister Maria Teresa, who in 1994, the year of his death, expressed the desire to donate the house to the Municipality of Grizzana as long as it was opened to visitors and nothing was altered.

The House Museum, which preserves all the furnishings and the Studio in which the painter painted some of his most famous paintings, represents a living testimony of the artist’s personality and his history. In front of it, there are the Fienili del Campiaro, a privileged subject of Morandi’s painting, which today host numerous exhibitions and are the current headquarters of the Giorgio Morandi Students’ Museum.

Today it is a small museum where everything has remained as it was left, including family objects and memories, the devotional images on the walls, the clothes in the wardrobes, the bunches of postcards including one sent by Sandro Pertini in 1960, the brushes, the tubes of paint, the jugs and the jars.
To book a visit to the Morandi House Museum it is necessary to contact the Culture Office by sending an email to biblioteca@comune.grizzanamorandi.bo.it or by calling the number. 051 6730311.
