United together by a beautiful hiking route, these mirrors of turquoise water of glacial origin are set between mountains and fir forests which are colored red and populate with wildlife.
In this natural environment with a magical atmosphere, the crystalline colors of the lakes contrast with the bright tones of the spruce trees that blend with the changing seasons.
The protected area of the Fusine Lakes Natural Park in the municipality of Tarvisio, in the province of Udine, is one of the most scenic lakeside destinations in Italy.
The Fusine Lakes are a complex of two lakes, Superiore and Inferiore, very close to each other which fully represent the expression of an alpine lake!
Both can be visited in the round thanks to the side paths where from time to time there are benches so you can stop and admire the splendid colors of the landscape!

The entire area at the foot of the mountain range of the Mount Mangart Group is immersed in nature and allows you to walk through the woods along paths suitable for everyone, which lead to refuges and huts where you can refresh yourself and relax.
Above all, we would like to point out the enchanting alpine lake of Predil near the quarry of the same name, which is also worth a visit. Visiting these places at different times of the year therefore means discovering different but equally evocative nuances and tones each time.
The route around the Lago Inferiore of Fusine is wide and flat. There are many panoramic points, easy to locate thanks to the wooden benches, which seem to be placed exactly where the shot is best. The Lago Superiore di Fusine on the other hand is wilder (smell of moss and leaves).
The path around the two lakes is approximately 4 km long and can be done in less than an hour and a half. You can start from the lower or upper lake indifferently, walk the ring around the first and stop, or continue the journey around the second. The routes are connected and in some of the most panoramic points there are benches to sit on.
Possible picnics on the banks of the lakes, excursions with snowshoes, walks in the woods. You can’t take a bath.

Those who want to take a longer walk than just going around the lakes can choose an alternative route to reach them on foot rather than by car.
Go by car to Aclete, a small hamlet of Fusine in Valromana (here the directions for Google Maps) and park the car in the open space immediately after the town centre.
A little further on on the right there are signs and there is a sign indicating the road to the lakes. The route is very easy, on a cart track that is clearly visible even in winter. after 3.8 km there are signs to turn left towards the lower lake.
Alternatively, you can continue and take the Sentiero Colrotondo a little further on, which reaches directly to Lake Superior. In total, including the tour of the lakes, it is about ten kilometres.
In the area of Fusine in Valromana and Tarvisio there are also various things to see and other interesting excursions to do all year round:
- Visit the center of Tarvisio, Camporosso in Valcanale, Valbruna and Ugovizza. These are some of the most beautiful towns in the area and are worth taking a walk in.
- Do other excursions such as the climb up Monte Lussari, the ring of Ugovizza huts, the Risonanza fir trail in Val Saisera or a walk in Val Bartolo, particularly evocative in autumn.< /li>
- In winter, it is possible to ski on Monte Lussari, or go cross-country skiing in Camporosso or in Val Saisera strong>. Those who prefer snowshoes or simple walks on the snow (rampons are recommended), can climb from the lakes to the Zacchi Refuge, venture into the Riofreddo Valley or in Valromana, where there are well-groomed slopes for winter excursions.
Every year the No Borders Music Festival event is held, which takes place between July and August
