Perfect Tourist Attraction for those who love Underground Archaeology, gentle Adventures and Mysterious places!
Considered one of the most fascinating and secret experiences in the capital. One of the most unique places in Rome.
A journey through history with the largest underground in Rome with 5 km of tunnels, 1.5 of which can be visited on foot or by bike.

The Labyrinth of Rome (known also known as “The Labyrinth” or “Underground Labyrinth of Rome”) is the largest visitable underground of the Eternal City.

A vast network of ancient underground galleries extending for approximately 5 km in total, of which approximately 1.5 km is accessible to the public.

It is located in the Appio-Latino neighborhood, within the Caffarella Park (one of Rome’s most beautiful and green parks, part of the Appian Way Regional Park).

Established in the 1st century AD as tuff quarries for the building expansion of ancient Rome, the tunnels were dug by slaves and laborers to extract building materials.

Over time, it has transformed into a true “Underground City” with Roman Galleries, Catacombs, early Christian burials and hidden Mithraic Temples (Mithraeum).

Today, entering the Roman Quarry of the Appian Way, you can explore 1.5 km of tunnels, traveling through time to discover magical and hidden places, from the 1st century AD to the early 1900s.
It’s not a “classic” labyrinth
with living walls to get lost in (like those in gardens), but a true Maze of interconnected underground tunnels.
