An English house museum dedicated to the short and brilliant lives of romantic poets in one of the most iconic and popular places in the city, the Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti in Piazza di Spagna.

The Keats-Shelley House in Rome is a museum dedicated to the British Romantic poets John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley.
The final resting place of John Keats, who died there in 1821 at just twenty-five years old.

The exterior of the building is similar to how it was when Keats arrived in Rome in a vain attempt to slow down the inevitable consequences of tuberculosis.
Opened to the public in 1909, this house museum contains a rich collection of paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, objects and first editions of the works of Keats, Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron, the most important exponents of the second English romantic generation.

Other important pieces of the collection are: a Reliquary containing a Lock of hair of John Milton and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, a Carnival mask in wax of Lord Byron and Manuscripts by Jorge Luis Borges, Oscar Wilde, Mary Shelley, Walt Whitman, William Wordsworth, Robert Browning and Joseph Severn, Keats’ friend and traveling companion.
A rich library specializing in romantic literature, which currently has more than eight thousand volumes to which new titles are always added.

Beautifully preserved rooms, such as Keats’ bedroom, and offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of Romantic poets through letters, literary manuscripts, portraits and memorabilia.
The house also has two terraces which offer a breathtaking view of the Spanish Steps.
Thousands of people visit the House every year in honor of the genius of Keats and other Romantic poets.
