Celebrate fun and satire in a unique atmosphere. Join the Festa dei Becchi and experience a goliardic tradition that celebrates irony and community.
The Festa dei Becchi (or Festa dei Cornuti) is one of the most goliardic and irreverent traditions in Monterosso al Mare.
It is celebrated every year on November 11th, the day of Saint Martin, a saint popularly considered the protector of “cuckolds” (hence the name “becchi,” a dialect term for betrayed husbands or, more broadly, “proud cuckolds”).

The festival has ancient roots linked to the San Martino fair, where horned animals (cows, oxen, goats, bulls) were traded.
Over time, it has become a satirical and carnival-like event: people joke good-naturedly about marital infidelity, but also about local vices, politics, local gossip, and current events.
Everyone wears horns (real or fake), lots of local wine (often mulled wine), roasted chestnuts, sausages and traditional dishes are eaten.
There is live music, parades, satirical speeches in dialect and goliardic awards (such as “king of the cuckolds” or similar).
