The ancient residence of Colleoni awaits you with visits and events for children and adults, a leap into the past to relive the time in which knights and ladies populated this splendid manor with guard towers, crenellated walls, the large moat, wide lodges and the ancient drawbridge.

Malpaga Castle is located in Cavernago, a few kilometers from Bergamo.
The history of the complex is mainly linked to that of the leader Bartolomeo Colleoni. It is one of the most important Lombard buildings of the 1300s. It dominates an expanse of 330 hectares of agricultural fields within the Serio River Park

During a guided or audio-guided tour you can admire not only the exteriors of the complex but also access the interior spaces, famous for the beautiful frescoes which date back to three different historical periods :

– fourteenth-century geometric frescoes created in the original castle
– paintings from the early 16th century commissioned from Romanino and other important schools of the time
– subsequent seventeenth-century frescoes created by Colleoni’s heirs
THE GHOST OF THE CASTLE
It tells of an impossible love between a young nobleman and a beautiful lady who lived right inside the castle. When the woman’s husband learned of their affair, he captured the young man and had him thrown into the well.

A chilling story that refers to events that actually happened between 1400 and 1500. Since then his ghost has been tied to that place, unable to abandon it. Legend has it that the ghost still wanders around the large rooms of the ancient structure. A soul in pain that, from time to time, would show itself from the windows or inside the loggia.
