The Ponteranica Lakes are in a hidden corner of Orobie, in a valley between the peaks of Mount Ponteranica, Mount Valletto and Mount Triomen.
A route immersed in the pastures and mountain huts of the Piani dell’Avaro
The Pescegallo car park (M 1473) is the starting point for the Ponteranica lakes.
The route follows the dirt road which in about 1 hour of walking, first to the left and then to the right of the chairlift, reaches the plateau with the Salmurano Refuge (M 1848).

You have to go up the meadow, following the ski lift poles, and then to the left there is the path to the Passo dell’Avaro (M 2099). The route continues to the left, on a steep slope, and – beyond a valley – reaches a mountain pasture; on the right is Monte Avaro (M 2099).
The path to follow – at the crossroads – is number 109, which goes up to the left and reaches the grassy crest: here is the basin with the Ponteranica lake. The route descends with a traverse towards the southern lake (M 2105); from here – continuing on the right of the basin – after a band of rocks there is the northern lake (M 2109).
The return follows the same itinerary.
