A unique Experience of Art, Eroticism and Illusionism, a symbol of the Gonzaga family’s power. From the Chamber of the Giants to the Hall of Cupid and Psyche, every corner tells stories of power and wonder.
Palazzo Te is a Renaissance Mannerist villa built between 1524 and 1534 by order of Federico II Gonzaga, Marquis (later Duke) of Mantua, as a relaxation residence, a place for parties, receptions and otium (aristocratic leisure).

Designed and decorated almost entirely by the genius of Giulio Romano (a pupil of Raphael), it is considered his masterpiece and one of the greatest examples of Mannerism in architecture and painting.

The Palace symbolizes Luxury, Power, Eroticism and Magic, with political and mythological elements that celebrate the Gonzaga family.

Inside, the halls are covered with Cycles of Mythological, Erotic and Illusionistic Frescoes among the most daring of the Renaissance
Camera dei Giganti (Hall of the Giants)
the most famous, with frescoes depicting the Fall of the Giants rebelling against the Gods.
The Titans attack Olympus, crushed by Jupiter’s lightning in an immersive perspective effect.

The walls and ceiling create a Total Collapse Effect, with rocks seemingly falling on us and dramatic figures – a masterpiece of illusionism and dynamism.

The vault seems to collapse on the visitor, evoking terror and admiration.
The spectator feels at the center of the chaos, as if he were one of the Giants overwhelmed by the catastrophe.

A masterpiece of Mannerist dynamism, disorientation, and wonder—a pictorial earthquake that denies the boundaries of architecture.
Decorated with Mythological, Erotic and Sensual scenes, including Banquets of the Gods and the love story of Cupid and Psyche, with an illusionistic ceiling.
The forbidden love between Cupid (Love) and Psyche, with a jealous Venus

It depicts the myth of Cupid and Psyche from Apuleius’ Metamorphoses, with erotic and amorous scenes surrounded by cupids; it is a jewel of sensuality and grace.
The real protagonist is explicit and joyful eroticism: sensual nudes, intertwined bodies, banquets with gods and mythological animals, scenes of embraces and voluptuousness.

A hymn to sensual pleasure, to “sweet idleness,” and to carnal beauty – cultured, Neoplatonic, yet provocative eroticism, designed to amaze and seduce.
Chamber of the Horses
dedicated to the favorite horses of Federico II Gonzaga, portrayed in a realistic and monumental manner.
Chamber of the Eagles
It depicts the Fall of Phaeton from the Sun Chariot, with stucco eagles and Gonzaga symbols.

Chamber of Stuccoes
Friezes over 60 meters long with Roman processions and over 500 stucco figures.
Courtyard of Honor, loggias, and a secret garden complete the ensemble.
