Another way of “seeing”. A journey into total darkness, which transforms a simple walk in a garden or sipping a cup of coffee into an extraordinary experience.
A permanent scientific journey, at the Institute for the Blind in Milan, which is undertaken in the total absence of light: groups of 8 people, accompanied by blind guides, cross, equipped of stick, environments that reproduce real situations relying exclusively on the senses of Touch, Hearing, Smell, Taste.
It is not a simulation of blindness but an invitation to experience how the perception of reality and communication can be much deeper and more intense in the absence of light.
The visit
In groups of up to 8 people, visitors complete a journey in the dark lasting an hour. We pass through some settings that recall everyday life situations, all different, to be discovered through the senses and dialogue with the blind guide, revealing “another way of seeing”. After crossing the different environments, the last stop is a bar where, always in total darkness, we comment on the experience we had.
It may seem trivial, but it is not at all. Once you have crossed the entrance, the border line between light and darkness, you find yourself dealing with a condition you have never experienced before, where you need to appeal to your abilities to navigate the new situation.
On Saturday evenings, from 5.15pm to 8.00pm, there is the Path+Cafénoir: after the Dialogue in the Dark Path, you can relax and refresh yourself by enjoying one of the fantastic cocktails prepared and served by our guides, along with appetizers!
