The approximately 70,000 hectares of the Bergamo Orobie Park represent one of the largest highly natural protected areas in Lombardy. The Park includes a large part of the southern slope of the Orobie, with imposing mountain ranges that rise up to over 3,000 meters above sea level and extensive valleys crossed by the Brembo, Serio and Dezzo rivers, which respectively cross the Brembana, Seriana and Scalve valleys; the numerous side valleys offer surprising and sometimes uncontaminated scenery.

The territory is very varied: on these mountains there are in fact extensive woods, various types of prairies which are home to flora and fauna of the highest interest, cliffs and screes also populated by rare and sometimes endemic species, i.e. exclusive to very limited territories.
It is a rich mosaic of environments, created by nature and man, which constitute habitats and host species protected by the European Union for their high naturalistic value.

For this important natural capital, the Bergamo Orobie Park is known as one of the areas with the highest biodiversity at a regional, national and European level. A large part of its surface (approximately 80%) has been recognized as part of the Natura 2000 Network System, establishing Special Protection Areas (SPAs) and Sites of Community Importance (SCI), designated to guarantee the long-term maintenance of biodiversity at community.
