Pizzighettone is a charming Medieval village in the province of Cremona, Lombardy, located on the banks of the Adda River and divided into two parts by the waterway.

With Walls approximately 2 km long, underground Casemates, and a Po Valley setting rich in trails and cycle paths, it’s ideal for a day trip on foot, by bike, or for a Cruise river.

The 16th-century Walls
The 16th-century walls, unique in Lombardy, surround the historic center. This defensive complex is approximately 2 km long, 12 meters high, and 3.60 meters thick. Stroll along the walkways to admire the Adda River and the Serio Morto River.

The Casemates
Inside the walls of the historic center, on Via Boneschi. Underground warehouses called “Casemates”, barrel-vaulted rooms within the walls, all connected to each other, unique in Europe.

Originally used as gunboats, ammunition depots, warehouses, and garrison quarters, they are now used for events, markets, and exhibitions.
Prison Museum
In the casemates of the city walls, recreate 19th-century cells with handcuffs, chains, and stories of famous prisoners (including the tower of Francis I).

Unique for its vibrant colors rich in mosaics. It contrasts with the Po Valley landscape.

The Church of San Pietro, with its patchwork façade of red, yellow, and green bricks, has undergone centuries of restoration.

Baroque interior with altars and paintings. There is also a permanent mechanical nativity scene.

Located in Gera, the exterior can be visited daily. For interior visits, the church is open every Sunday from March to October (except July and August) from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Volunteer guides can also be visited by appointment.
Other Attractions
Church of San Bassiano Vescovo. The oldest church in the town, built in Lombard-Romanesque style. Dating back to the 12th century, it is dedicated to the patron saint of Lodi. Inside, it contains paintings by Bernardino Campi and three 14th-century marble panels. A refuge for refugees from Lodi after the Milanese conquest of 1162. Frescoes and simple yet evocative architecture.

Torre del Guado (or Castle Tower). The only intact vestige of the ancient castle, which in 1525 served as the setting for the 40-day imprisonment of Francis I of Valois, King of France

Museum of Arts and Crafts of the Past with exhibits of agricultural tools, workshops, and 20th-century rural life.

Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin in Roggione. A small church and artistic gem with Marian frescoes and views of the Adda River.
Within the Adda Sud Park and along the Serio Morto Valley, you can explore the area along country trails and cycle paths.
