The mines are a magical world steeped in history, where every visitor, young and old, can journey back in time and discover the wonders of the underground and empathize with those anonymous men who, with their pickaxes, contributed to the development of our region.
With the reopening of the Primaluna mines, it is now possible to delve into the depths of the Grigna.
Our guides are ready to accompany you on this journey to the Tourist Mines of Lake Como.

The mines and the routes
– Internal route
Walking along the first stretch for a couple of hundred metres, you reach the bottom of the tunnel where you come across the mineralized vein of barite with its characteristic white colour. During the journey, machines and methods of excavation are presented, highlighting the particularities of the appearance and structure of the rock.
To then reach the majestic cave from where the barite has been extracted for the last thirty years. This fascinating and imposing cave, perfectly illuminated, is visible from below. Thanks to some ladders, it is possible to climb laterally, for a few meters, into the vertical gallery located on the side and directly look out onto the large cave.

– External path
You walk along the dirt road that goes up the mountainside which passes near the various entrances to the mines. We visit the remains of the station, with the cableway, of the “Vittoria” mine.
Proceeding further you arrive at the oldest mines – Speranza Superiore and Virginia Superiore – where you can overlook the deep ravine left after the first open-air excavations which took place on the barite outcrops in the second half of the 19th century.
During the tour, the ancient methods of excavation and transport of the material downstream are explained.
Inside the mine the temperature varies from 7 to 10 degrees and in summer it drips noticeably
