Dedicated to the memory of the Battle of Solferino and San Martino of 24 June 1859, a crucial event of the Second Italian War of Independence. The Museum is part of a complex that also includes the Rocca di Solferino, the Ossuary and the Red Cross Memorial.

The Museo di Solferino is located at the foot of the Rocca park and the adjacent park of the Church-ossuary and exhibits a vast collection of Relics, Weapons, Uniforms and documents relating to the battle and the Risorgimento period.

The Collection covers a period of time that goes from 1796, the year of Napoleon Bonaparte’s first descent into Italy, to 1870, the year of the capture of Rome.

The exhibition is enriched by captions that explain the historical events and by an Iconographic collection that includes prints and drawings from the 1618 period.

There are exhibited some examples of Cannons, Weapons, Uniforms and various memorabilia of the historic day of June 24, 1859.
La Rocca
At the top of the highest hill of Solferino, contested by the Austrians to the French army allied with the Piedmontese in the battle of June 24, 1859, stands a majestic building of 23 meters high that dates back to 1022.
Called “The Spy of Italy” for its strategic position, it preserves relics found on the battlefield.

The Ossuary Chapel
A place of reflection and memory in which, in the apse, 1413 skulls are kept and countless bones of the fallen. Five busts of as many French generals who fell on the field in the Italian Campaign face each other at the entrance to the Temple.

The Monumental Complex also incorporates the Museo di San Martino della Battaglia a few kilometers from Solferino.
