The Leonardo’s Ferryconnects Imbersago with Villa d’Adda. The journey takes a few minutes, but we recommend it: it will amaze you for a reason: the Leonardo’s Ferry has no engine!
Created according to Leonardo’s drawing present in the Windsor codex (1513), Leonardo da Vinci’s ferry, which moves without an engine by exploiting the force of the current, exploits the force of water and moves by means of a metal rope that runs on a roller. The workers use these tools to set the large raft in motion. It will amaze not only children, but also adults!

The ferry consists of two boats side by side topped by a platform with a hexagonal guardhouse
a central shaft on which a roller is mounted on which a metal rope runs which joins the banks of the Adda
It has two rudders: one at the stern and one at the bow.
This mechanism studied by Leonardo da Vinci allows the ferry to move without the aid of an engine or classic oars only thanks to the motion of the current and the fixed rope system between the two opposite banks of the river.
The ferry transports both pedestrians and vehicles and operates all year round.

The ferry is part of the “Adda Ecomuseum of Leonardo da Vinci” dedicated to a stretch of the Adda river thanks to a 21 km cycle-pedestrian path inside the Adda North Park, from Imbersago to Municipality of Cassano d’Adda, which enhances the naturalistic, engineering, architectural and historical heritage by referring to the testimonies relating to the passage of Leonardo da Vinci in these areas.
You can set your navigator to via Donatori di Sangue ad Imbersago, where there is a free car park (spacious, but it is easy to find it full). This is the most convenient point to reach the Leonardo Traghetto.
