One of the first public parks in Italy. In addition to being an oasis of peace and beauty, it represents an example of how architecture and public greenery were conceived as works for the good of the community

The Orti Giuli are one of the oldest and most evocative nineteenth-century public parks in Italy, located on the Bastione del Carmine along the walls built by the Della Rovere family

They are also evidence of the transformation of the defensive walls into green spaces accessible to citizens, a typical phenomenon of the nineteenth century
The phrase “perchè non mancasse worthy posto” is part of the inscription at the entrance of the Orti Giuli in reference to the creation of the park, conceived as a place of beauty and serenity for the city, in memory of the writer Giulio Perticari.

The Garden is spread over several levels, following the shape of the bastion, with tree-lined avenues, stairways, statues, flowerbeds and small neoclassical buildings.
The central avenue connects the entrance to the top of the bastion, where there is a panoramic square with the bust of Giulio Perticari, from which you can enjoy a suggestive view of the port, the Foglia river and the San Bartolo hill.

Along the paths you will find archaeological finds, columns, small temples, sarcophagi, inscriptions and sculptures of the city’s epigraphic heritage.
The park is home to a remarkable botanical variety: holm oaks, cypresses, yews, thujas, black locust trees, Judas trees, ailanthus and many other species, so much so that in 1840 a special catalogue of the plants and nurseries annexed to the Orti Giuli was drawn up
Free Entry. Open to the public from 7:30 to 19:30
The Giuli Gardens are home to the Valerio Meteorological Seismic Observatory and the Guidi Museum.
This is a currently operating meteorological observatory that collects various technical data.

In addition to being active and efficient today, it has a very fascinating history, there are many instruments now dated that tell the story of the study of the weather, seismography and the skies.
