Dolls, Toy Trains, Miniature Cars, Toy Soldiers, Board Games and much more. A journey through time, through the history of Games and Toys, which reflect the culture and society of past periods.

The Museo del Giocattoli Antico is located in the historic center of the city, inside the former stables of the ancient and imposing eighteenth-century Monti Malvezzi palace and hosts a precious collection of Antique Toys that covers a time span from the nineteenth century to the immediate post-war period.

The collection includes toys of various types, from different countries and eras, offering a fascinating journey into the history and evolution of play and childhood
Consisting of three exhibition rooms, with 23 display cases accompanied by a historical-artistic-cultural itinerary, in which it is possible to contextualize the toys within the different historical eras to which they belong. All cared for in detail and equipped with explanations in both Italian and English.

Among the pieces: Dolls, Toy Soldiers, Bears, strange Giants (e.g. an Ostrich), Magic Lanterns, Marbles, Swings, Period Clothes, Fans, Opera Librettos…

However, there are also older toys, such as those found in the tomb of a Roman girl, the famous Crepereia Tryphaena doll.

The layout was designed to engage the visitor, with particular attention to the historical and cultural narration of the toys on display.
Theater and Literary Café
The museum is framed by a small 36-seat theater, called Teatro Museo Fatati, which hosts concerts, cultural events and presentations, and a Literary Café, available to theater users, containing valuable artistic and literary books.
