A spectacular natural cavity immersed in a wild and historically rich context, ideal for hiking among nature, history and suggestive panoramas

The Grotta del Petrienno is a cavity about 60 m wide and 15 m deep, almost entirely hidden by trees and set in a narrow valley completely invisible from a distance.
Inside you can still see the simple masonry works built and used by farmers and some writings on the walls by American soldiers who used the place as a shelter.

The entrance passes under the Cascata di Agore formed by the ditch and is really nice even if not feasible during periods of flood.
The waterfall forms at its foot several pools of crystalline water in which the crayfish lives. Great place for walking in the woods.

Although the route has been recently marked, in some places the path is not yet well marked so it is necessary to have a good sense of direction.
Furthermore, the itinerary is not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo due to the presence of some exposed sections.
In the Municipal Territory of the Municipality of Acquasanta Terme in the Province of Ascoli, near the village of Tallacano there is a small semi-abandoned hamlet called Poggio Rocchetta in the area known as the Lost Apennines which can be reached with a comfortable dirt road with a few km.
A small but very interesting ring trail starts from this village.

Leave the car just before Tallacano, take the dirt road to the nearby village of Poggio Rocchetta. You can see, slightly up on your right, the small village that stands right on top of a peak overlooking the valley.
At this height you will find on the left the sign for Agore.
From here begins a pleasant forest path that, in about an hour, leads to the Agore Waterfall and then to the Petrienno Waterfall and Cave.
