Particularly known for the reproduction of Raphael’s tomb, which makes it a destination of both religious and cultural interest

The Church of the Santissima Annunziata, also known as “intra muros”, is a religious building located in Urbino, in the Marche region, and is annexed to the former convent of the Discalced Carmelites.
The Church is located in a secluded position, along the road that leads to the Fortezza Albornoz and not far from the Casa di Raffaello, making it a cozy and quiet place to visit.
One of the most singular elements of the church is the presence of an ideal reproduction of the tomb of Raphael, the famous artist from Urbino, whose real burial place is in the Pantheon in Rome.

This detail makes the church a small but significant place of memory for the figure of Raphael, closely linked to the city of Urbino
The reproduction does not copy the tomb as it appears today, but is inspired by the historical nineteenth-century version, reconstructed thanks to two main sources: an oil painting from 1836 by Francesco Diofebi (kept at the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen) and a nineteenth-century lithograph century of the Royal Collection Trust
It was produced by Factum Arte of Madrid for the exhibition “Raphael (1520-1483)” at the Scuderie del Quirinale and subsequently donated to Urbino, the artist’s hometown

The work enriches the church, no longer intended for worship, transforming it into a cultural and memorial space dedicated to the “divine painter”
Admission is free and the visit is recommended for those who wish to discover lesser-known corners rich in history and spirituality of the city
