Much more than a competition, it is a celebration of Art, Identity and Play, rooted in the Renaissance and its districts. An event that combines tradition and fun.

The Kite Festival of Urbino is a historical and poetic tradition that takes place every year as a tribute to the poem “L’Aquilone” by Giovanni Pascoli (italian poet), which recalls his years spent in Urbino, and represents a moment of leisure, creativity and sharing for the entire community.

It involves the ten historic districts of Urbino, which challenge each other in the construction and flying of kites, often made with traditional techniques such as greaseproof paper, ditch reeds and flour glue, but also with modern models.

The highlight of the festival is the race held on the slopes of Mount Cesane, where hundreds of kites color the sky in a spectacular competition to fly the highest kite.

During the festival there are also Workshops for children and adults, Parades of the districts, Shows and Awards for the best kite in terms of aesthetics and flying ability.

The festival takes place in various locations around the city, including the Parco dell’Aquilone alle Cesane and the Fortezza Albornoz, where individual races and other competitions are also held.
