From a ruin in ruins to a Work of Art thanks to the owners of the land and two English artists. The Barolo Chapel is one of the wonders to see in the Langhe. UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Langhe, a masterpiece and perfect combination of contemporary art and patronage.

This is an architectural recovery of a never consecrated church in the Brunate vineyards in La Morra, property of the Ceretto winery.
The Barolo Chapel, previously known as the Chapel of Santissima Madonna delle Grazie and also called Brunate Chapel, is a building never consecrated . It was built in 1914 to provide shelter in case of bad weather to those who worked in the surrounding vineyards.

Almost in ruins, it was used as a warehouse for agricultural materials: the room perfectly contained a tractor.
In 1970 the Ceretto family purchased the 6 hectares of the prestigious Brunate vineyard in the municipality of La Morra on which the Chapel stands and became its owners.

It was the great British artist David Tremlett, during a long stay in the Langhe in August, who imagined the new life that the chapel could have by involving his friend and colleague Sol Lewitt to collaborate on this vibrant and full of colour, a sacred place for a cult of joy, a provincial parish that extends over the world.
Tremlett designed the interior with warm and welcoming colours, Lewitt designed the exterior with lively and joyful shades, making it recognizable from miles away.

The Barolo Chapel is also known by the name of Cappella de La Morra, Cappella Ceretto, Cappella delle Brunate and Cappella Sol LeWitt
Curiosities and Legend
The two artists didn’t want money, but a lifetime supply of Barolo. They agreed to recover the ruin and bring it back to shine thanks to their Art in exchange for a lifetime supply of a bottle of wine every week.
