At the entrance, visitors are welcomed by a display of illustrative material relating to the route, the exhibition rooms and the rolling stock on display. A themed bookshop, with postcards, videos, gadgets.
The duration of the visit is generally a couple of hours; the interest aroused by the history of railway technology, with particular reference to the local one, is paired with the suggestion of the settings of an era in which land transport took place almost exclusively by rail.
In the two warehouses of the museum several steam locomotives and electric and diesel engines are housed with their carriages in two covered and uncovered areas.
The premises of the Puglia Railway Museum also lend themselves as a unique and particular location for various types of events such as shows, exhibitions, photographic and cinematographic sets.
The recommended itinerary is an immersion in the fascinating world of trains from their origins to the present day, retracing the evolution of carriages, wagons and traction vehicles, with the display of real rolling stock, which can often be visited inside.
The route is made more accessible by an important photographic, documentary and modeling apparatus, and by a collection of memorabilia, necessary to describe to visitors, in an engaging way, the many aspects of the railway world
Many vehicles will be equipped with ladders for convenient access on board. Finally, you enter the internal rooms (in reverse numerical order), to return to the Reception Room.
The layout of the rooms and the layout of the rolling stock is constantly evolving, following the acquisition of new memorabilia and new vehicles or the creation of new thematic sections.
Railway Modeling
Model railways are one of the peculiar aspects of the Museum.
Thanks to the presence of model-making members, over the years, operational models of considerable size and static dioramas of actually existing situations have been created which, together with the over 450 models in various scales currently on display, constitute a notable apparatus educational, accompanying the museum exhibition
