The Margherita di Savoia Salt Pan is the largest salt pan in Europe and is located in Puglia, in the lower Tavoliere, at the foot of the Gargano.
A place of great historical and naturalistic importance with an expanse of waters tinged with pink, red and orange.
It is possible to participate in guided tours that allow you to discover the secrets of salt production (white gold) and the salt pan ecosystem with the Observation of the evaporating zones, the salting area, the collection areas and, if in progress, the salt harvest.

The salt pans are home to a rich fauna and flora typical of salty environments, making the area interesting also for nature and birdwatching enthusiasts. The salt pans are also a natural reserve for animal populations.

Birdwatching
The salt marshes are a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 200 species of aquatic birds, including pink flamingos and herons.
The “Airone Trail” is a recommended route for observing these species.

Some of the most common and significant species that can be observed in this area:
Pink Flamingos: Present in large colonies, they have become a symbol of the salt pans. There are about 6,000 specimens and they feed on brine shrimp. The numerous colonies are visible throughout the summer season until the first days of autumn.
Wild Ducks, Waders, Herons and Egrets, Gulls and Terns, Black-winged Stilts, Birds of Prey, Spoonbills, Cranes, Greylag Geese, Black-tailed Godwits and Ruffs
Walks and Relaxation
The salt pans offer a unique environment for relaxing walks among the salt pans and along the nearby beaches, which have been awarded the Blue Flag for their quality.

You can visit the largest salt pan in Europe also by train every day.
– If the visit requires the use of your own vehicle:
once you arrive at your destination, at the scheduled time for the visit the gates are opened and you can access the interior with your own vehicle.
You park temporarily shortly after the entrance to be able to purchase tickets and then you will take your vehicle again to begin the guided tour.

– If the visit includes the train:
you need to find out if it is possible to park the vehicle inside or use the parking lots along the road or those in the squares a little further ahead.
