The Historical Cavalcade of Nardò is one of the most anticipated and evocative events of the entire cultural calendar of Salento.

Every year the city transforms into a living stage in which its glorious history relives, offering residents and visitors an unforgettable experience of history, culture and tradition.

The story … several centuries ago
In the afternoon of the first Saturday of August, the chamberlain, accompanied by the mayor of the nobles and the people coming from the four pittagi (Castello, San Paolo, San Salvatore, San Angelo), went from the city or university palace (the former magistrate’s court of Piazza Salandra) to the bishop’s palace, amidst the sounds of drums and trumpets and explosions of gunfire from the city militia.

The bishop gave them the banners after having blessed them and then the scepter to the market master, who issued his edict for managing the fair.

Then the solemn ride took place towards the church of the Incoronata, where the nine days of the fair began.

A ritual that remains spectacular thanks to the great commitment of the Amici Museo di Porta Falsa association.
