A journey through the history and culture of Sardinia!

About 5,000 years ago, during the Neolithic period, the Domus de Janas, known locally as “La Rocca” in Sedini (Sardinia), was a collective underground burial chamber dating back to the 4th-3rd millennium BC.

It was created by excavating a large limestone rock, with the chambers initially connected, as is typical of domus de janas.

But what are domus de janas?
Domus de janas (house of the fairies) are prehistoric rock-cut tombs typical of pre-Nuragic Sardinia.

These structures, from the Late Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age (4400-2000 BC), were widespread throughout the region, with the exception of Gallura.

Over the course of 5,000 years, La Rocca was used continuously, serving as a burial site, a dwelling, a prison, and a museum of ethnographic traditions.
