A collection of about 250 historical instruments, many of which have been restored and in some cases still working, which testify to the evolution of physics research and teaching in Catania from the second half of the nineteenth century to the first decades of the twentieth century

The Museum Collection is located at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Catania
It includes instruments used in the sectors of Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, Acoustics, Mechanics, Thermology, in addition to the first equipment dedicated to the study of X-rays and Radioactivity.

There are also instruments used for educational demonstrations of mechanics of solids and fluids.
The oldest piece is an eighteenth-century microscope

The collection is exhibited along the central stairs of the department, and is freely accessible to students and visitors, from Monday to Friday, upon reservation
