The Gole Alcantara Botanical and Geological Park (also known as Gole di Larderia) is located in the protected area of the Alcantara river valley. The characteristic gorges arise from the cooling of past lava flows caused by the icy river water.
It is one of the main tourist and naturalistic attractions of the Valley, a place where it is possible to discover an almost uncontaminated nature, with the convenience of many services and entertainment activities for families with children.
The Legend
the God Vulcan, in love with and in turn loved by Venus, had perpetually heated the waters where the Goddess used to bathe. When their love ended, the divinity of fire punished Venus by making the waters of the river cold.

– Museum of Land
Learn Geology in an innovative and fun way thanks to the 4D multimedia room which, in addition to describing the phenomenon of the formation of the Gorge, reproduces the effect of a volcanic eruption. Video with the origins of the gorges
– Excursions and Alcantara Walking
Nature trail inside the Botanical Park which leads to the discovery of the regional flora among fruit plants and aromatic herbs and offers incredible views of the gorges and lava rock. The route takes about an hour. You can then go down where the river passes and walk along the icy waters between impressive rock walls.
There are many itineraries, but there are 3 or 4 breathtaking points of view not to be missed.
In the Gurne dell’Alcantara you will see a fresh lake and all around there is lush vegetation including poplars, downy oaks, willows and oleanders. Then the Small Gorges of Alcantara reveal the presence of a lava bed, with gorges and waterfalls. Again, the path of the banks of the Alcantara river where the river flows into the extensive basin.
Inside the Alcantara Gorges you can relax on the gravel beach or you can rent dungarees to go down the river downstream
– River Trekking and Body Rafting
Route that allows you to visit the interior of the Gorges, the itinerary is carried out in groups with river assistants. With the overalls provided, you go up the river between lava rocks and waterfalls inside the gorges and then return to the starting point. Ascent by lift
Body Rafting remains the most fun of the activities with which you can reach the deepest part of the Canyon and then use your body as a raft to slide along the rapids of the River. The stretch of river known as the Gurne which is only two kilometers from the Gorges is the ideal one for body rafting.
The instructors, along the route, explain where to put your hands and feet. Wetsuit, helmet, life jacket and shoes are provided.
– Spray Park
A wet square of approximately 600 m2 with sprays and water features. Deckchairs and umbrellas are available to customers with limited availability.
Children will be able to play without any danger, even if they don’t know how to swim. Kids will be able to invent new games and routes thanks to the particular spray activation system and adults will be able to relax and cool off by walking peacefully among the games.
– Bike Tour
For all sports enthusiasts, visit the Alcantara Gorges Botanical and Geological Park by bike.
The area is equipped with a children’s playground, bathrooms, a picnic area with tables, refreshment points near the entrance and a small kiosk near the beach. Dogs allowed.
Choose between two inputs
– Municipal entrance with Info Point: access at a very low price and via descent of a staircase of 240 steps that lead to the entrance of the Gole di Larderia.
–Entrance from the Botanical and Geological Park: a few meters from the municipal entrance with paid access for descent by lift.
