Large engines, rare and in an excellent state of preservation. A true paradise for mechanics and engineering enthusiasts, as well as for families and tourists who wish to discover an unusual side of the city, away from the traditional historical and artistic itineraries.

The Historical Museum of Engines and Mechanisms (also known as the “Museum of Engines“) is an important academic collection dedicated to the evolution of mechanics and engineering, part of the University Museum System of the University of Palermo.

It houses over 300 artifacts that trace the history of heat engines and mechanisms from the Industrial Revolution to the present day.

It is an ideal place for enthusiasts of technological history, engineering, and transportation, offering a journey through time through engines, aircraft, and scientific instruments.
Among the most fascinating pieces are a Fiat G.59 4B aircraft, one of the few remaining in the world, a rare 1920 steam turbine, and automotive engines such as the prestigious FIAT 8V, as well as aircraft engines of great historical value.

What to See: The Collections
Marseille Steam Engine (1921): A majestic 125 hp steam engine, perfectly restored, a highlight of the museum.
Gas Engines: Among these, a huge 400 hp lean gas engine, used to power a mill, stands out.
Diesel Engines: A wide range of diesel engines from different eras and power ratings, demonstrating the evolution of this technology.

Aeronautical Engines: Such as the Alfa Romeo 110 (clone of the Daimler-Benz DB 601) and the Fiat A.10.
Car and Motorcycle Engines: Includes engines from famous vehicles such as the Ferrari 125 S (the first model from Maranello, from 1947) and engines from Moto Guzzi and Gilera.

Mechanisms and Educational Models: A fascinating collection illustrating the fundamental principles of mechanics.
Replica Machine Models: Working reconstructions of simple and complex machines, based on the studies of great scientists such as Leonardo da Vinci.

Motion Transmission Mechanisms: Gears, connecting rods, cams, and joints that demonstrate how motion is transferred and transformed.
Mechanical and Electromechanical Calculators
