An exhibition that takes you on a journey through the geological and paleontological history of Sicily.

The “G.G. Gemmellaro” Geological Museum is one of the oldest and most important geological museums in Italy dedicated to Geology, Paleontology, and Mineralogy.

The museum displays collections of Fossils, Minerals, and Rocks from Sicily and other parts of the world, including artifacts of great scientific and historical value, such as fossils of Sicilian dwarf elephants and a rich collection of shells, corals, and vertebrate skeletons.

Among the most famous pieces is a gypsum crystal containing a drop of Mediterranean water from 6 million years ago and the oldest human skeleton found so far in Sicily, dating to the Upper Paleolithic.

In addition, the museum also houses rare artifacts, such as rock samples from Ferdinandea Island, collected during the brief period when it emerged in 1831.

There are also fossils from the Cenozoic Era, including a collection of large shark teeth, and Quaternary fossils representative of the fauna of Monte Pellegrino.

The museum is spread over three floors and includes thematic rooms such as the Enzo Burgio Room, the Hall of Man, and the Hall of Crystals.
– Enzo Burgio Hall, with finds from Sicily dating from the Permian to the Quaternary.
– Hall of Man, with the fossil remains of Thea, a woman who lived in the Upper Paleolithic.

– Hall of Crystals, for mineral enthusiasts, is a treasure trove of calcite and sulfur specimens dating back to the Messinian.
– Hall of Elephants houses fascinating exhibits of dwarf elephants that once populated the island.
– Dinosaur Hall, among the most spectacular attractions, with a Carnotaurus and a Tyrannosaurus rex jawbone.

The Virtual installations, such as the Volcano Hall and the reconstruction of the Carcharodon megalodon, offer immersive experiences that enrich the visit.
The museum is named after Gaetano Giorgio Gemmellaro, a distinguished Sicilian geologist and paleontologist.
Entrance is often free or requires a nominal fee.
