An ideal destination for outdoor activities, relaxation, and trekking, with free services and a welcoming atmosphere for visitors of all ages.

The Rifugio Santa Maria del Bosco is a picnic area located in the Nebrodi Park, in the Randazzo area.

An ancient farmhouse renovated by the Forestry Company offering a wide range of free services including Cooking stations, drinking spring Water fountains, a Camping area, Children’s games, and a Soccer field.

The facility also features Restrooms, a shelter-bivouac room that’s always open, equipped with a Fireplace and bunk beds for those who want to spend the night with their own sleeping bag, a Chapel, and a small Museum dedicated to art and rural tradition.

Only the Chapel and the Museum are closed if Forestry staff are not present.
Free Entry and Overnight Stay

The refuge, very popular especially in spring and summer, is an excellent starting point for various hikes along the trails of the Nebrodi Park thanks to its privileged location and the surrounding natural environment.
The refuge room is always open, as are the restrooms.
You can sleep with your own sleeping bag.

There is no formal reservation service, as the refuge is managed as a state-owned area and the bivouac area is freely accessible.

How to get there
From Randazzo, take the S.S. 116 (toward Santa Domenica di Vittoria), cross the
bridge over the Alcantara River, and after a little less than a kilometer, take the small road on the left (a wooden sign will indicate the presence and direction of the refuge).

After about two kilometers, you reach the entrance to the Monte Boiardo state-owned area.
Pass the forest gate and after about 4 kilometers of dirt road (more challenging, but doable with small and not particularly low-slung cars), you reach the rest area with restrooms, a shelter with a fireplace and bunk beds, a small chapel, and a farmers’ museum.
