A walk through Natural landscapes to reach the picturesque Waterfall and perhaps take a dip or relax for a Picnic.

The Catafurco Waterfall is located in Nebrodi Park, in the Galati Mamertino area, in the province of Messina, Sicily.

It is a Natural Waterfall with a drop of about 30 meters along the San Basilio stream.

At the base of the waterfall is a natural Cave called “Marmitta dei Giganti”, a natural swimming pool carved into the rock where you can cool off on hot days.

The trail to reach the waterfall starts from San Basilio, where you can park your car near the trailhead.

The walk is approximately 3.8 km long, with a walking time of about 1.5 hours each way, and is of low difficulty, suitable for children.

The trail is well marked with several fountains along the way. It passes through mountain landscapes, offers views of the valley, and the chance of encountering grazing animals.

Along the route, there are some interesting stops worth a visit, such as Borgo Molisa, a ruined village, and “Lacrima di Maria,” a small grotto with a statue of the Madonna where water falls like rain.

The waterfall can also be accessed by climbing steps carved into the rock.
Free Entry
At the beginning of the trail is the La Cascata Kiosk, a space equipped with a cafe, restrooms, tables, seats, and wooden benches where you can stop for a picnic snack.

At the kiosk, you can also request a shuttle service to the waterfall for those who don’t feel like walking.
We recommend bringing water, comfortable shoes, and preferring the spring and autumn months for a pleasant hike.
The total round-trip hike is approximately 7.6 km and takes about 3 hours. There are picnic areas with tables near the waterfall.
How to get there
From the center of Galati Mamertino (Messina), follow the signs for the hamlet of San Basilio, where you can park your car.

Continue on foot along the trail to the waterfall for about 2.5 km (also suitable for families, not strollers).
