A large monumental complex, surrounded by defensive walls, located within the town center with a spectacular view of the Val di Cornia and the surrounding landscape
It is composed of an almost completely preserved building, now home to the Museum, the Palace, the tower, the cistern and the remains of another adjacent structure. Free to visit every day

The complex hosted its founders, a branch of the Gherardesca family, in the 12th century, and later garrisons of Pisan and Florentine soldiers.
The finds discovered during the excavations are therefore objects attributable both to common life (Table ceramics, personal and devotional objects, Games), and to military life (part of a Cuirass for the protection of the bust, a Bascinet for the protection of the head and points for Bow and Crossbow for hunting and war).

In the layers of the tower’s butto, a Slab engraved in 1380 by a soldier, a certain Baldo or Bandino, was also found, which recalls a war event.
The exhibition is enriched by educational panels relating to the life and customs of civil and military society in the Tuscan Middle Ages.

Furthermore, the structures of the Pisan tower houses are visible, which represent an important historical element of the village
