Kite throwing, flower market exhibition, historical city procession through the streets of the centre, the antiques and collectibles market and the “arts and crafts” market for the oldest historical event in San Miniato
It is a festival that celebrates the arrival of spring, accompanied by the Flower Market Exhibition and the Borgo Fiorito initiative, which transforms the entire town into a fragrant garden.
In the squares of the centre, the market of local zero kilometer products will also be set up, with the delicious Marzuoli truffles and other products of the land. Among the stands you can also find antiques and the creations of local artisans.
The Kite Festival takes place on the lawn in front of the tower of Frederick II, where dozens of kites take flight from the morning, with the masters of San Miniato taking kites built according to the old Tuscan tradition: river reeds dried in the open air, natural twine, glue made with water and flour, greaseproof or tissue paper.
In the afternoon, the evocative historical procession takes place in the street, with people in costume to celebrate the characters who in various capacities have made the history of San Miniato; the accompaniment with drums, clarions and flags of the group of musicians and flag-wavers is beautiful and engaging.
The day also includes hot air balloon flights: from Piazza del Duomo they take to the sky loaded with messages and poems of peace written by children.
The antiques and collectibles market and the “Arts and Crafts” market in Piazza del Popolo, Corso Garibaldi and Piazzale Dante Alighieri throughout the day: crafts, manufacturing, DIY, ancient crafts, small antiques , collectibles, furniture.
The day ended with the traditional Painted Kite Auction.
