One of the most beautiful walks in Europe, a mix of Alpine and Mediterranean vegetation, combined with a splendid panoramic view.
The lush vegetation with pine nuts, cedars, corks, eucalyptus, bamboo, magnolias, agave, aloe and prickly pears gives the walk a pleasant Mediterranean atmosphere.

The Tappeiner promenade is a pedestrian route approximately 6 kilometers long (round trip) lasting approximately 2 hours and is considered the pearl among the Merano walks and is therefore called “the pinnacle of the heavenly panorama of the Burgraviato”.
The path is flat, comfortable and wide, also suitable for strollers, it is located 100 m above the Merano valley and offers a splendid view of the spa town of Merano.

Along the walk it is possible to admire heterogeneous vegetation with trees and bushes, mainly typical of Mediterranean vegetation. You can observe the birds of prey up close. Along the route there are many benches, rest areas and panoramic terraces.

Starting from the Gilf walk you have the opportunity to follow the Tappeiner walk in its entire length and admire, at the beginning, the beautiful panorama from the powder magazine that embraces Merano and the nearby bell tower of the Cathedral.

A WORLD OF FLOWERS
The charm of the Tappeiner Walk is also due to the varied Mediterranean vegetation and the wonderful flowers and plants that can be seen along the walk, alternating examples of typical local vegetation with cork oaks, eucalyptus trees, lotuses, maritime pines, palms, bamboo, cacti , agave, magnolias and olive trees.

Description of the path
From the town center you go down the main street to the mini golf course. Here you take Vicolo dei Castagni following its course up to Via Gnaid. The latter leads to the Thurner Schlössl castle. Going down via Thurnstein, after approx. 200 m you come across the famous Tappeiner Walk which starts on the left.
Following the walk you arrive at Monte S. Zeno. Here you go up for approx. 150 m towards Tirolo to the Erlachhof farm. Following the Alter Tirolerweg path you arrive at via Monte Benedetto.
Continuing, you reach via Principale which finally leads back to the starting point.
Once you reach the end of the walk, you can also return to the center of Merano by bus or again along the Tappeiner promenade and reach Merano near the chairlift.

Thanks to the panoramic view of the city, the walk is also called the “crown” or the “tribune” of the city of Merano. The city owes this path to the doctor, botanist and anthropologist Dr. Franz Tappeiner from Lasa in Val Venosta, who also gave his name to the walk.
