LIFE OF THE GNOMES ON MONTE BARANCI
THE HIDEOUT OF THE GNOMES

At the Gigante Baranci refuge, in the immediate vicinity of the giant foot-shaped lakes, there is an alpine recreational area, which is enriched with a very special attraction: the gnomes’ hideout.

Typical little houses are hidden high up in the tree branches, which can be explored between ladders and suspended bridges. The life of the gnomes instead takes place on the ground, in the nine cabins in the woods.

a mysterious creature that everyone called “Olperl”.
He was neither man nor beast. During the day he remained hidden in the depths of the woods, but at dusk he transformed into a mischievous elf and enjoyed scaring farmers and travelers with high-pitched whistles. To the people of the valley he was known only for his bright protruding eyes.
It is said that even today, at night, the Olperl wanders around the mountains of Sesto and continues to tease people.
But Olperl isn’t bad, on the contrary, he’s a smartass: all the animals in the forest are his friends and together they climb, play hide and seek and tease each other. Olperl loves berries and eats them until he’s satisfied.
