A historic residence from the early twentieth century, surrounded by a large park, now home to a Regional Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which combines period architecture, family history and artistic culture in the Aosta Valley

In the panorama of the Aosta Valley castles, the one built in Châtillon by the baron Carlo Maurizio Gamba is one of the most recent, built at the turn of the twentieth century
Restored and transformed into the Regional Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, with an exhibition that houses a vast collection of works from the nineteenth century to the present day, including an important photographic collection

In thirteen rooms are exhibited Works of Sculpture, Painting, Graphics and Photography.
You can appreciate masters of the nineteenth century, twentieth century and contemporary, with an eye also to local artists.

Visiting the castle you can follow different paths: get to know the collection by walking through the museum discovering the artistic movements that have characterized the art of the 20th century, or embark on a journey to discover the landscape, following a combination of environmental and historical-artistic heritage.
You will admire the works in welcoming rooms and lounges.
Installation that externally characterizes the building and the works of art it contains are the generative center.
It is a steel ring structure crossed by a line of warm LED light, an ellipse with a development of 65 meters that surrounds the tower.
The author of the work is Massimo Uberti (Brescia 1966), one of the greatest interpreters of Light Art in Italy.
symbolic representation of the conflict that saw the Kingdom of Italy and the Empire of Ethiopia opposed between 1935 and 1936. Depicted in the act of trampling on the front paws of the lion, emblem of Abyssinia.
Of the monument there remains a plaster model and the fragmentary bronze version exhibited in the hall of the castle.

Art Collection
Paintings, Sculptures, Photographs, Graphic works ranging from Romanticism to the latest avant-garde research.

On two floors are exhibited over 150 works created by local personalities such as Italo Mus, but also by some of the most significant artists of the last two centuries.

Therefore, among others, we encounter the Castle in the Alps by the English Romantic painter J.M. William Turner, the sculptures of Umberto Mastroianni and Arturo Martini, the paintings of Carlo Carrà and Renato Guttuso.
The itinerary follows the artistic currents in a chronological manner, arriving at reserving rooms for living artists from the Aosta Valley, who can express their creativity and feel at home at the Gamba Castle.

The Park
A walk among the open-air sculptures of the museum collection.
Of particular interest are the monumental trees such as the Giant Sequoia of California, 37 meters high and with a trunk with a diameter of over two meters. In spring the park is colored by daffodils and tulips.
