A residence used by the royals following hunting trips in the surrounding mountains and with trophies arranged for ‘decorative’ purposes in a decidedly particular way. The Royal Castle of Sarre is one of the most famous and visited in the entire Aosta Valley. Its Gallery and Trophy Room make it unique.

The Castle of Sarre was the last to be left among those belonging to the Royal House. For this reason, numerous pieces of art belonging to the family are preserved inside it, which you can see again today as you stroll through its rooms.
The Trophy Room and Gallery, rooms decorated with ibex and chamois horns arranged to form ornamental motifs, which testify to the royals’ passion for hunting.
The walls are enriched with floral frescoes combined with the horns of hunted animals.
The Royal Apartments: they preserve furnishings from other Savoy residences and works of art that belonged to the royal family.

On the second floor there are documents, paintings and sculptures dedicated to the members of the royal family who lived in the castle, while on the ground floor there are portraits of the Savoys and rooms dedicated to royal hunts.
Queen’s Room
On the main floor you can visit the room of Queen Margherita, so called in the 1890 inventory following a stay of the sovereign at the Royal Castle of Sarre in the summer of 1880.

Painting by Fontanesi
In the Royal Hall, on the first floor, a masterpiece by Antonio Fontanesi is exhibited.
The canvas, entitled Altacomba, a reminder of the fountain of wonders, depicts a location near the famous French abbey, the tomb of the Savoy family, on Lake Le Bourget.
Savoy Portraits
A significant group of works of dynastic iconography, collected mainly by order of Umberto II and which reflect his collecting interests directed towards iconography and Savoy history.

The Chapel of Santa Barbara: Dating back to 1713, dedicated to Santa Barbara and featuring paintings depicting the blessed of the House of Savoy.
The Garden, divided into four sections, offers a splendid view of the surrounding mountains. On the sides there are porticos made of vines that offer shade during the summer.
The Gallery of Relics: In this space some of the most significant historical relics of the castle’s collections are exhibited.

The Rooms dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele III and Elena of Montenegro, Umberto II and Maria José of Belgium, and to the history of the Savoy: they house lithographs, iconographic bronzes and sculptures dedicated to the various corps of the Sardinian army and the history of the royal family.
The Hall dedicated to the promotion of Arts in the Twentieth Century: focused on the policy of encouragement for national exhibitions promoted by the Princes of Savoy in the first post-war period and houses paintings and sculptures by artists who participated in the Venice Biennale and other important art exhibitions
